Our beautiful Drôme region
Provence in a nutshell.
Difficult to resist the charm of the Drôme Provençale, we were quickly captivated by the beauty of the landscapes and our many stone villages, many of them listed. Rich in its 600 listed castles (more or less in ruins), more than 70 are listed or classified as Historic Monuments.
In the far south you will be conquered by the beauty of our giant of Provence.
Let enthusiasts tell you about its reserve with its extraordinary flora and fauna. Discover the many hiking trails, you come face to face with the slopes of Mont Ventoux and the beauty of its landscape. Let yourself be charmed by the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Pays de Sault or the Gorges de la Nesque. Also worth visiting, and located on the banks of the Ouvèze Vaison-La-Romaine with its picturesque historic center and its 7 hectares of Gallo-Roman excavations.
Further north of the Drôme Provençale you will find the Vercors regional natural park, it is one of the most beautiful natural parks to visit in France. A real limestone citadel with its spectacular cliffs which overlook narrow gorges and at the bottom of which flow rivers and torrents. The Vercors Regional Natural Park is known for hosting some unforgettable natural sites. We can mention the cave of Choranche, the gorges of the Bourne and the garden of the Petrifying Fountains. Throughout the seasons, the park offers a wide range of activities including mountain biking, caving and climbing. Admire this wild nature.
Between Vercors and Provence we find picturesque valleys like the Diois. A nourishing land, which conceals treasures and delights gourmets: its picodon, its crunchy, its famous Clairette, its aromatic plants. Lavender which is grown on mountain sides.
A little further south we find Dieulefit, a town classified as a tourist resort and labeled resort.
green. You will find departures for many hikes in chestnut and oak forests. Several rivers give freshness to the landscape: the Jabron which crosses Dieulefit and digs the cliff in the direction of Roubion opening in its upper part access to Bordeaux. To the east, the Lez valley. In the center, the town of Nyons, classified among “The Most Beautiful Detours of France” is nicknamed “little Nice” because of its microclimate. René Barjavel, a local child, said: “The only difference between Nyons and Paradise is that in Nyons, we are alive!!! ".
Further south east , the Baronnies Provençales with its Regional Natural Park. Is located away from the main roads, long withdrawn from tourism because it has an exaggeratedly tortuous and labyrinthine relief. Its built heritage is remarkable, we find many perched and picturesque villages. With also a fauna (protected animals) and an extraordinary flora, the park also shelters a rich biodiversity. A large number of possible excursions perfect for lovers of hiking or mountain biking! You will find in Buis Les Baronnies one of the most beautiful Via Ferrata in France. We cannot talk about the many assets of the Drôme Provençale without telling you about the wine culture, that of lavender or even that of truffles or even olive trees. It's the combo perfect between the sweetness of life, a gastronomy to die for. There is so much to say about this region that you will just have to come and discover it...
Then, as we all say here:
the more you discover the Drôme, the more you love it.
